Yes I am superstitious. But not the black cat, under ladder, umbrella indoor type – although it IS unwise to open an umbrella indoors, you might just poke the cat’s eye out.
(Un)Fortunately I believe in the constant movement of energy. Think negative thoughts for too long and you just might become the inducer of bad luck.
I see I’m being a bit vague. A practical example is that I would never talk about road accidents while in a car. To me it equates to inviting karma to prove just what a side impact feels like. Tap water has a funny taste or colour? I will not mention stomach flu or liver fluke or giardia for that matter. But I will actively support the local shop with a few extra purchases.
These superstitions have leaked into my gaming habits. Particularly Sims games. If I create a self sim I will not create my spouse or child (or any relative or friend for that matter). If something fatal happened to their pixelated versions I fear it might reflect in real life; in contradiction to this I am completely blasé as to what happens to my virtual self. I am fully aware that it is only a game, but (as quoted by wiki) “Superstition is a credulous belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge.”
So while I will happily give Felis domesticus the right of way (after stroking the luxurious black coat) and domestically clean up spilled salt, pepper and HP sauce from the counter, you will not catch me chatting about Roy Sullivan during a thunder storm.
