My poor brain is suffering from this stay-at-home-mom business. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. I love cuddling Amelia and feeding her, and cleaning her, and washing her, and putting her to sleep, and planning my day around her feeds and un-planning my day because of her feeds… It’s just that I was so used to being analytical for 9 hours a day, 5 days a week – and now the most challenging thing is to balance her on one shoulder while I get the chicken out of the freezer.

So I got a new hobby by accident. I nitpick. Not on purpose mind you, just per chance. I just phoned Nestlé now because of the info on their smarties box (didn’t know Nestlé made smarties, so now I also learned something). On the box is this little clipart of a supposed Aussie with some facts on Australia. The box says that the capital of Australia is Sydney. So I phone them and a nice lady answer, I tell her the capital of Australia is Canberra. She tells me that they are aware of the misleading factoid (not her actual words 😉 ); so she takes my details to acknowledge my call. Bugger. I wanted a year’s free supply of smarties. Maybe next time.

The other thing I saw is a bit more serious. On Friday past (10 October ’08) I was channel hopping. Takalani Sesami was on SABC2 (that’ the South African version of Sesame Street). There was a scene that took place in a Dr’s office. On the wall behind the puppets was en eye chart with white on black text. The first 2 lines read O and MG, then WTF, then STFU. I couldn’t believe my eyes – yes, the cliché rings true – I blinked and blinked, but kept on seeing those familiar abbreviations.

I emailed a complaint to the BCCSA on Monday. I had a response within half an hour – am impressed. The email read that they would take it up with the SABC and would forward me any progress that they make. I haven’t heard anything yet, but the website says they handle everything within 30 days… or something along those lines.

On a lighter note, Huggies sent me free samples. I phoned them up and said that I was interested in buying Huggies nappies from now on, but would like to try before I buy – I find the Pampers nappies a bit ‘hard’. So they sent me 3 Huggies Gold #2 nappies and a sample 8 pack of wipes. I LOOOOVE the wipes. Thing is that I don’t understand why wipes (and toilet paper and kitchen towel) need pictures and embossing on them. All I’m going to do is wipe my baby’s dirty bottom and throw it away. I can buy a great product for a lot less just because it’s plain. Still, I got some excellent freebies 😀
Will keep you posted on the other two follow ups.
